Our four-year-old Golden Retriever is obsessed with a ball; the only trouble is that she skids to a halt when I throw the ball for her on our lawn. We now have a muddy trench in the garden.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what surface we could put down on the grass to protect it and her?

We have a large dog and were fed up with laying more turf. So, we had artificial grass laid - it is like a plastic carpet! All through our last two winters it has been brilliant and until you stand on it you would not know it was false. There was a choice of lengths of grass(?) and also shades of green. It also grows under trees so looks good.
