Trick or treat?

Do you know of any hypoallergenic treats I can give my girl?

Sasha, my Cocker Spaniel, cannot eat beef, veal, turkey, fish or diary.

She is fed on Burns kibble with fresh chicken, which suits her very well, but I am struggling to find any treats that don't upset her. I feel awful for her on walks when kind dog walkers offer her treats and I have to say 'sorry Sasha but you can't have one'.

Any ideas would be welcomed.

  2. If she can tolerate fresh chicken you could cut some up into small pieces for her to use as treats on walks. You can also buy dried chicken strips. If you're feeling creative you could make chicken biscuits or cake for her and only add ingredients you know she tolerates. Liquidise the chicken and mix in egg, some flour and garlic until it mixes into a scone like mixture. Bake in the oven until it looks cooked (Nigella Lawson I'm not) I usually make it with lambs liver rather than chicken and if she can tolerate lambs liver that might be an option.

  3. I`ve a 5yr old Chocolate Labrador, Chester, who is allergic to Beef, Lamb, Chicken, Duck and cows milk so I do sympathise. It is so difficult to just buy a pack of treats.I think the 1st thing to do is to decide what you dog CAN eat.I do make my own biscuits from time to time swapping ingredients around a bit eg Liver Cake...if your dog can eat Pork then you can use pigs liver, can substitute Olive Oil in place of some fats in a recipe. Chester loves milk so he can have a little Goats milk at Breakfast time..the big softie !!There are treats out there which you will be able to buy but you really have to be careful what the ingredients mean ( eg Poultry meat -well is it chicken, duck, turkey or what ????).Have you thought of Venison Treats - (Burgess Supadog do one). Vegggie treats might be ok for you. Be careful of Rabbit because sometimes they sneak a lot of Chicken in with it - naughty! Other Dog Walkers --explain what they feed your dog will make your poor animal really ill " here give him/her one of these instead". I don`t like my dog being sick or having the runs etc..they eventually get the message. If you are struggling just take a couple of ginger biscuits out on your walks - most people can relate to that if you are desparate !! Good luck, linda

  4. Why not use cooked chicken, cut up into treat-sized pieces? Or sausages, liver, or any other meat she can have, again cooked and cut up into small pieces.

It can be difficult to buy treats for a dog with a dietary intolerance or allergy, but the simple solution is not to buy treats, but instead make your own!

  5. Hi
Asda sell Webbox dried chicken breasts, which are soft, almost jelly like and can be cut into pieces. I use cooked chicken alot but it is messy to have in your pocket so in the summer I use a dehydrator and dry it. Thrive dog treats have a dried chicken treat but it is very expensive. Pets at Home sell small packets of dried duck or chicken which is reasonably priced but a bit crumbly, the duck less so then the chicken. I also make Copper liver cake using chicken livers. I liquidise 2 pots of chicken livers (very yuckky) add boiled rice (one boil in the bag portion) and some gluten free plain flour until it is like a firm cake mix, put in a well greased baking tray and cook on gas mark 5 until brown. Be careful of cooked chicken roll (the types sold for sandwiches) as this has milk protein in it. Hope this helps and good luck, Michelle
