Veggie supplements

Does any body know anything about vegetarian glucosamine for dogs?

My dog can not have the ordinary stuff due to a shellfish intolerance. I want to give her some nutritional support for her hips and knees as she has had a problem in the past.

I would like to know if it is effective, and which is the best brand, and where I might be able to get it from. I really would appreciate any comments and experiences other readers have had with vegetarian glucosamine.

Thanks,

  1. I don't know if it's vegetarian, but Yumove is excellent.

My instinct would be that animal sources would be more easily absorbed by dogs. I think some brands are from cattle? I do know that beef gullet is a good source of chondroitin; you could ask a friendly butcher. If it is just shellfish she can't have, salmon oil is good for joints, too, as well as the odd meal of oily fish.

  3. Hi here at Simply Supplements we do sell a vegetarian version that is shellfish free. The product is sold for humans but can also be used for pets (a higher dosage is usually recommended though, dependant on the size of the dog) It is best for your vet to advise the respected quantities as it will differ per each individual pet. Here is the link http://goo.gl/LOegt The product is currently on offer too so may be worth looking into?. I hope this helps, please also let us know how your dog gets on with it. Best wishes Suzie
