Spring clean

Dear Dogs Today

Can you and your readers recommend any good vacuum cleaners?

Mine is on its last legs and cannot cope with the amount of hair shed by my white GSD-Labrador cross!

Thanks very much,

Pam Beal, by phone

  1. After my rather expensive Hoover suddenly 'died' a few weeks back after just five years ownership, I have bought a Bissell bagless cylinder vac - cost £34! I have two greyhounds, not the heaviest shedders of dog hairs, but the Bissell does the job. I think they have a vac specifically for picking up pet hair - check out their products or look at the Argos website for the range and prices.

  2. Highly recommend Dyson hoover not got the animal one but normal one deals with hair from over 100 foster dogs a year.Had it 12 years now and can't fault it.

  3. I have got 6 GSDs one being white and would not be without the animal Dyson.

  4. I can reccommend any Dyson, our DC01 used to clean up hair from 3 Estrela Mountain Dogs and 3 cats with ease. The DC07 Animal that we got to replace it is still going strong after about 7 years and many cats as well as the 2 hounds we have now. I know they are expensive but you definitely do get what you pay for with a Dyson.

  5. Miele Cat and Dog, it's brilliant. Only downside for some is that it uses hoover bags but I prefer them

  6. Mine is a Hoover Whirlwind 2000w upright bagless and I have to say, I LOVE it. Great with dog and cat hair (although I have a Border Collie so yours probably sheds more), and with everything else! Vacuuming is SO much easier with this for me - I have had 'pet' ones in the past but decided this time to just go for higher wattage and it seems to have paid off. Highly recommended :) Good luck in your search!

  7. I bought a Dyson Animal upright(not the ball version, Im not so keen on that model) after using various Dyson versions in my cleaning work. It comes with a turbo tool designed for removing pet hair. The most satisfying aspect is being able to see exactly what you have hoovered up - and then being able to empty it straight into the bin. Helps with those "uh uh, what did I just suck up?" moments, and you can see exactly how much dust and hair was on your carpet!
