Cotton wool coat

I have a three-year-old neutered Golden Retriever.
Even though he is fed a good diet, his coat is like cotton wool!
I wondered if anyone could suggest anything to make it more silky and shiny - but not too high in calories as that is an issue also!

Hello Dogs Today team,

I’m after suggestions from other doggie people! Although its still the wettest the weather has ever been, I’ve found the air is quite warm and I’m getting hot on walks. I’m now on the hunt for a lightweight waterproof coat that can cope with dog walks across sodden ground, but doesn’t leave me sweating like mad.

Can any of your readers recommend their favourite macs?

Chill factor

As you can imagine my 2-year-old Beagle, Fletcher, loves the great outdoors and we regularly go on 3-hour hikes across the beautiful Chiltern Hills. However, now with the temperature dropping over the last few weeks, I have noticed Fletcher shivering on occasion whilst we are out. As I wrap up well against the winter weather, I wondered if Fletcher should be wearing a coat or any other products to protect him against the elements? Do dogs feel the cold like we humans do?

Assuming liability?

Is it true that dog coats designed to warn others that a dog is nervous, in training, or aggressive, for example, could be seen as an admission that an owner is aware there is a problem, and could be used against them in the event of an incident?

Or, would it work in the owner’s favour and be seen as an attempt by the owner to improve the dog’s sociability and warn others away?

Does it make a difference if the only signs are a yellow ribbon or blank coat, as opposed to a coat or lead that states ‘warning’ or ‘dangerous’?

Where does the law stand on all this, and will it change when the new laws come in?

Coat quandary

Dogs Today’s Christine Bailey is looking for a coat which features leg straps, plus a hole for attaching lead to harness. Any suggestions?

She says, “I put a coat on Dan – my Border Collie - today which does have harness hole, but keeps slipping over to one side so it’s right down one side but he’s completely exposed the other!”

Any suggestions would be gratefully received by a chilly dog!
