Reaction or just a coincidence?

Is it possible to have a reaction to other injections - not just a vaccine?
I have heard of a dog developing a lump on the site of an anti-biotic jab. What could cause that? Is their any other ingredients in an antibiotic jab that a very sensitive animal could have a reaction to? Or could the antibiotic itself set off a lumpy reaction? Or could it just be a coincidence?

  1. There was a period when my Doberman had a few injections in the same place over a period of a couple of weeks, and he developed a large lump at the site of the jab, I discussed this with my vet who said this can be common, and it was nothing to worry about, then with future injections he gave the neck area where the jab was to be administered a quick massage after the jab, and no lumps appeared, so it seemed to do the trick! Hope this has helped.

  2. Yes I think so. My 4yr old JRT is allergic to vaccinations (her second yearly booster almost killed her so we stopped them). However, we have noticed that she had a terrifying reaction to conventional flea treatments - Frontline being the worst. Her breathing became laboured, her stomach you could literally see it juddering and then it went rock hard. She had to have antiobiotics from the vets. So, we have homeopathic nosodes in place of the vaccines and we have become expert at catching and killing the pesky fleas! (YUK)....from Debbie.

  3. Our 3 year old boxer bitch suffered an infection of the saliva gland which meant she couldn't eat and was unable to take oral antibiotic. She was therefore given 4 daily antibiotic injections in the scruff of her neck and the saliva gland infection cleared up. However, 4 weeks later she developed 2 very large hard lumps on the scruff of her neck at the site where she was given the injections. She is fine in herself & reading other similar incidents wondering if this is bad reaction ( 4 weeks later?)
