We have a two-year-old neutered male Labrador who enjoys the run of our back garden. However, after he wees or poos he kicks up great lumps of turf with his back feet. I understand that he is marking his territory, but how can we stop him from digging up our lawn?

They always look so happy when they kick up the turf, like they are pleased with a job well done.I wouldn't have to heart to stop them.
ReplyDeleteOne solution is easy. Just take the dog for enough and long enough walks so they don't go in the garden as often. Once you get the timing an rhythm the dog will prefer to go on a walk and not in his garden. Some dogs are not only house trained, they 'property' train themselves and don't want to do it in their own backyard.
I don't think you can stop an innate behaviour but echo the above advice - walk the dog rather than letting him out in the garden, or fence off a small section of garden.
