Back in the harness

I wonder if any of your readers have any good recommendations for harnesses for a Greyhound and a little Whippet-sized Lurcher?

I've used a few harnesses, but I have found none of them are long enough from the front to belly, meaning they rub under the front legs.

I want a decent quality one, something comfy for them both, because they have to stick with harnesses as they are experts at getting out of collars!

  2. I tend to use fleecy harnesses with my lurcher and dobermanns (similar shape). I have used 3 websites to get them from in the past, and I have no real preference for any of them (just picked whichever one had the cutest colours/best promotions at the time :-)) www.xtradog.com, www.snugglepets.co.uk and www.dog-games-shop.co.uk. Good luck finding the right harness!

  3. Try a fleece walking harness from www.xtradog.com. I am a dog trainer and behaviourist and I use these exclusively because they are so comfortable, effective and they do a custom fit service too

  4. Try perfect fit or fleece lined harness from www.dog-games-shop.co.uk. If you ring them 01684569553 they are happy to discuss individual needs and their service is brilliant.Highly recommend them.

  5. Have a look at http://dog-games-shop.co.uk/harnesses-fleece-lined or http://dog-games-shop.co.uk/perfect-fit-fleece-dog-harness we have one for our Bull x lurcher no rubbing at all.
We have the plain fleece lined but the perfect fit offer much better adjustment with regards fitting. Hope it helps Carl

  6. Have you tried the Perfect Fit harness from Dog Games? Have a word with Sally Hopkins who designed the harness. I've used them with lurchers and whippies (with the addition of a link as our Princess is an excapologist).

  7. Try Dog Games perfect fit harness:
    http://dog-games-shop.co.uk/perfect-fit-fleece-dog-harness
It comes in 3 seperate parts, so can be tailored to fit any dog. Also, as the girth is fleece lined it should rub less than a nylon harness.

  8. I recently discovered the some soft, fleece-lined harnesses from the Dog Games Shop (http://dog-games-shop.co.uk) which are perfect for Whippets and Greyhounds. In particular, the Perfect Fit Harness has a modular design that means it can be adjusted to fit dogs of any shape and size. The top parts come in a range of colours including high-vis for walks in the dark, and if the harness gets worn the relevant part can be replaced without having to buy a whole new harness.

I've found these harnesses great for my whippets, who find them very comfortable. And the harnesses really do grow with your dog whatever his needs - my stiff-limbed 14-year-old especially appreciates the fact that his harness is easy to put on without having to lift his front legs.

  9. You could try looking on one of the greyhound or lurcher forums. I'm not sure if we are allowed to post links on here, but if you search for Greyhound Gap you will find recommendations and people who make them just for pointy dogs on there.
