Same difference

My dog Alfie, a three-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, was suddenly taken ill with sickness and diarrhoea and was rushed to the vet, where pancreatitis was dianosed after emergency treatment. He is now home but I have been told that he as to go on a low fat diet eg Chappie. His previous food was either Butchers or Winalot wet food with a sprinkling of Wagg.
I also have another dog, a 13-year-old Staffie cross weighing 16kg and they are both fed the same food. Can anyone advise me on what food would be suitable for both my boys.

  1. All Burns adult foods are low in fat so should be suitable for Alfie. The best ones to suit the older dog as well are Burns High Oats, Burns brown rice foods (Chicken, fish or duck varieties) or Maize and Chicken or Fish.
With all of these you must control carefully the amount of food you give - in Alfie's case to prevent a relapse. The older dog seems heavy at 16kg and at 13 years doesn't need as much as when he was younger.

If you want to feed some wet food, why don't you give the Chappie a try - a lot of vets seems to like it. I have a friend with a small dog with pancreatitis, she tried him on a lot of feeds and ended up on Fish for Dogs which he has been fantastic on for a couple of years now. I think it's the type of fat that must agree with him.
