Comfort factor

Anyone know of a more comfortable option to the cone of shame for dogs?

  1. I believe you can get large fabric rolls now that are much more comfortable and will still stop a dog from chewing at a wound.

  2. Hi there. May or may not help. Depending on injury or op the dog has, try a cotton tee shirt.....I used one successfully on our rottie when she was spayed. Secured it by tying in a knot at the end of the material. :)

  3. Depending what area is involved i use and old t shirt or a boys vest. I also rub clove oil around the area. My dogs hate the taste

  4. A measly few minuets or so isolated in a boring room on the dog's own would be ideal. Don't leave the dog for too long however as it won't learn.

  5. No idea if they work or not but inflatable Comfy Collars look like a good alternative:

  6. Hi you can get collars that are a bit like human neck braces, but these only work if the wound is around the hind quarters

  7. I guess it depends what needs protecting. If it's the belly then a thundershirt would work, they are really soft so shouldn't hurt the wound but really thick and close fitting so a dog couldn't chew through them.
Legs and feet I've tried different protective things and nothing stays in very well.
Bums I suppose doggy nappies might work.
I have seen blow up versions kind off like water wings that go round the neck before. Lol but in the shape of a ring. They looked much more comfortable but I don't know where I saw them....Sorry someone else might though.x

  8. I have a 'Comfy Collar' for my two JRT crosses. It is like a blow up rubber ring (with a strong cover) that wraps round your dogs neck and uses velcro to fix it shut.
Several companies make them. Check out this link http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_12?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=comfy%20collar&sprefix=comfy+collar%2Caps%2C397&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Acomfy%20collar

  10. Kong do a cloud collar that makes it hard for the dog to turn it's head to get to injury sites. There's also a soft-e collar. If you go to somewhere like Amazon and search for recovery collars quite a few are available.

  11. I am quite late seeing this and know it has already featured in the magazine but I hope you see this reply anyway. One of our best sellers is the Medical Pet Shirt. Lots of people are using them as an alternative to the cone http://www.dfordog.co.uk/medical-pet-shirts.html or there is a soft, flexible cone called the Trimline which you may like to try http://www.dfordog.co.uk/trimline-recovery-collar.html
